How Secondus, Aliyu are instigating crisis in Niger PDP, by group

Crisis is brewing in the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A factional group, the Concerned PDP Progressive members, has accused the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, and the state party leader, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, of creating crisis in the party.

But the party’s Caretaker Committee Chairman in the state, Alhaji Garba Umar Chiza, has said that ther that there was no crisis in Niger PDP; but ‘‘political interests,’’ which he said, was not strange to any democratic setting.

Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye, has hailed lovers of democracy who rose to the occasion to foil the attempted invasion of the state assembly complex in Benin City, on Thursday.

Okiye who spoke in Benin City, called on “democrats the world over to remain vigilant and keep vigil over the happenings in Edo State as anti-democratic forces are on the prowl and set to undermine core democratic values such as the rule of law and the constitution.”

Protesters hit Abuja, seek change of govt

The Department of State Services and the Nigerian Police Force are having an herculean task dispersing the #RevoltuionNow protesters in Abuja.

The protesters, mainly youths, were calling for a change of government over high level corruption and insecurity in Nigeria.

The security officials were said to have pursed both protesters and journalists from the scene of the protest, which began on the morning of Wednesday August 5, 2020.

Breaking: A’Ibom APC chairman passes on

The Akwa Ibom State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ini Okopido, has passed on.

A top member of the party in the state, who confirmed the sad incident, disclosed that Okopido died in the early hours of Wednesday at the Ibom Multispecialty Hospital (IBH), Uyo.

According to the source, Okopido died of multiple organ failure.

Corruption: NDDC is a ‘cash cow’ for politicians – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, lamented that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has deviated from its original mandate, alleging that the commission has become a source of wealth for some corrupt politicians.

This followed the recent revelations on the high level corruption in the commission.

Wike’s words: “I have said before and it is very clear; my concern is everybody knows that NDDC was set up for the development of the region,” he told Channels Television during an interview on Sunrise Daily in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Mamman Daura may be right on zoning, let Nigerians decide – Aliyu

The immediate past Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, Mallam Mamman Daura, may be right by rejecting rotational Presidency ahead of the 2023 general election.

He also suggested that the best for the country was to allow Nigerian electorates decide on the issue.

Daura had in an interview with BBC (Hausa Service) dismissed zoning and rotational presidency as he argued that competence, not geography should determine the next President of Nigeria in 2023.
