Imo monarchs visit Uzodinma, get assurance on conduct of LG poll

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has assured traditional rulers in the state of his readiness to conduct fresh local government election in line with local government laws in the state.

He gave the assurance when the chairmen of the traditional rulers from the 27 local government areas of the state led by the Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty, Eze Agunwa Ohiri, paid him a visit on Monday.

Also Uzodinma reminded the monarchs of the importance of their role in ensuring peace and tranquility in the state.

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has appealed to the government at all levels to take education serious.
He said that the Nigerian government was not doing enough on the sector, stressing that its free education was a mirage.
Obi spoke, while donating 12 laptop computers with printers and a generator to power them to St. Patrick’s International Secondary School, Awka, Anambra State.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, has criticised the way security officers were deployed during the 2019 general elections.

Professor Yakubu who spoke during the expanded inter-agency consultative meeting with the committee on elections security in Abuja stressed that a lot of attention was given to numbers rather than setting priorities on strategic deployment.

Rivers govt to EFCC: You have no power to investigate state govt

The Rivers State government has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has no power to investigate its financial transactions.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, who disclosed this, pointed out that EFCC could only investigate the government if it vacates the Federal High Court judgment that declared that it cannot investigate the financial transactions of the government.

Supreme Court affirms election of Governor Ishaku

The supreme court has affirmed the election of Governor Darius Ishaku as Governor of Tarab state.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Ejembi Ekwo, the court held that the counsel to the APC admitted that the party had no candidate in the election and therefore has no locus standi to contest the election of the governor.

The Judge added that the appellant conceded the fact and went ahead to suggest that the supreme court allow one professor to step into the shoes of the disqualified candidate.
