Atiku assembles 400 witnesses against Buhari’s victory

The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate in the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said on Monday that they had assembled over 400 witnesses to testify at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, where they would challenge the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress’ victory at the poll.

They spoke through the National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Mr Emmanuel Enoidem, on the premises of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, venue of the tribunal where they filed their petition on Monday.

Supplementary elections: We expect high-level cooperation from security agencies – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called for improved synergy with various security agencies in the country during the supplementary election to be held in some states on March 23, 2019.
INEC’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, made the call on Monday during his appearance on Sunrise Daily, a breakfast programme on Channels Television.
“We are ready for this particular election, and we expect that things will go well,” he said.

Election: Bauchi governor meets Buhari, heads to court

The Bauchi State Governor, Muhammed Abubakar, says he will go to court following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the governorship election in the state.
Governor Abubakar disclosed this to State House correspondents after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Monday.
On what he discussed with the President at the meeting, he said, “I am not seeking any action of Mr President.”

No certificate of return for Okorocha, INEC insists

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that it would not present a certificate of return to Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.
INEC’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, disclosed this during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday.
He explained that the electoral body took the decision because the returning officer for Imo West senatorial district election said that he declared Governor Okorocha as the winner “under duress”.

Army probes assassination attempt on Wike, misconduct by personnel

The Nigerian Army has set up a committee to investigate the reported assassination attempt on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as well as allegations of misconduct against its personnel during the general elections.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sagir Musa, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
He explained that the committee was constituted as part of the measure to ensure that troops deployed for election security duties conducted themselves within laid-down Rules of Engagement and the Code of Conduct.

Niger governor snubs PDP defectors

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has shot the door against defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who joined the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and worked for his re-election on the March 9, 2019.
The defectors had gone to the Presidential Lodge, Minna, which serves as the Governors’ residence in company of others to congratulate him after the elections but met stiff resistance from the security men on duty who simply refused them entry.

Obi commiserates with Lagos, Anambra govts

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has commiserated with the government and people of Lagos State on the collapse of a building in the state that claimed some lives.
Obi's message was contained in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem.
The Anambra State former governor also offered his condolences to the families of those affected in the accident that took place at Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

Five killed, several others injured in Bauchi political violence

About five persons have been reportedly killed while several others were injured following election violence in parts of Bauchi metropolis as political thugs popularly called ‘Sara-Suka’ went on rampage attacking innocent residents.
Reports have it that the political thugs who went on rampage between Thursday and Tuesday morning attacked and killed innocent residents; injuring several others also in the process in protest of the conduct of the recent gubernatorial and State Assembly elections.
