The late former Vice-President, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, has been described as a national icon whose contributions helped to stabilise democratic ideals in the nation's polity.

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commiserated with the Ekwueme family and Nigeria over the death of the country's first Executive Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, whose death was announced on Sunday night at a London hospital.

Second Republic Vice-President, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, has passed on.

A statement issued Monday by the family and signed by his brother and the traditional ruler of Oko community in Anambra State, Igwe Laz Ekwueme, said that he died by 10:00pm in a London clinic, Sunday, November 19.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has deployed 16 patrol gunboats and 6, 000 policemen to tackle sea piracy and criminality in Bayelsa waterways to ensure that the water channels were safe.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Asuquo Amba, disclosed this in Yenagoa during a visit by members of the State chapter of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) at the weekend.
