57 primary healthcare centres benefit from NSHIP’s N164.1m support

At least 57 Primary Healthcare centres (PHC) in three local government areas of Bauchi State benefited from the N164, 190,562 under the Nigeria State Health Investment Project (NSHIP) third quarter, while five PHCs were sanctioned for poor performance.
It could be recalled that in the second quarter of 2018, the 57 health facilities received over N48 million with Bauchi having N4.2; Dass, N42.2; and Katagum, N2.2 million, respectively.

The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Adamu Muhammad, disclosed this at the Performance Based Financing (PBF) Steering Committee meetings for the third quarter 2018 in Bauchi on Saturday.

He explained: “These decisions were reached separately at the Performance Based Financing, PBF, Steering Committee meetings for the third quarter 2018 held at the respective Local council secretariats.
"The local government areas that benefited include Bauchi, Dass and Katagum.
"Twenty one health facilities in Bauchi LGA got N43.6m; N16m health facilities in Dass LGA will have N69.2m, while 20 health facilities in Katagum LGA took N51.3 million, respectively.
"Subsequently, five health facilities to include Tashan Babiye, Wintin Dada, Urban Maternity, Yuguda, and Kofar Fada PHCs in Bauchi and Katagum LGAs were sanctioned for poor performance , poor record keeping and non-functional documentation," he said.

Muhammad who was represented by Hajiya Samira Abdullahi, the Health Care Waste officer, NSHIP in Bauchi, attributed the sanctions taken against some health facilities to carrot and stick approach as contained in the project's guidelines and specifications.
He said that there was great improvement in the performances of the health care facilities compared to the second quarter of the year.
In their separate remark, the Directors of PHCs in the three LGAs - Bako Garba Gamawa, Sulaiman Abdu Kirfi and Ali Dogo Muhammad - expressed satisfaction over the development and pledged to improve in the fourth quarter of the year.
