Police arrest Bauchi man for burying grandchild alive

A 50-year-old man, Bawada Audu, has been arrested by the Police in Bauchi, Nigeria, for allegedly burying his 17-year-old daughter, Hafsat Bawada’s newborn baby alive.

Audu, who resides at Rimin Ziyam village in Toro Local Government Area in Bauchi State, allegedly buried the baby boy behind his house following the disappearance of one Danjuma Malam Uba, who was suspected to have impregnated Hafsat.

Hafsat gave birth to the child on September 14, 2020, according to The Nation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the story in Bauchi at the weekend.

According to him, the discovery of the child’s corpse was as a result of a joint operation between the police and human right organizations, who accompanied Hafsat to the Divisional Headquarters Toro, where she reported her father’s dastardly act.

Wakili disclosed that upon receipt of the report, the corpse was exhumed and the baby was rush to the General Hospital where he was certified dead by the medical doctor.

The statement reads, “On 16/09/2020 at about 1000hrs, a joint operation between the police and human right brough one Hafsat Bawada ‘f’ aged 17yrs of Rimin Zayam Toro L.G.A Bauchi to Divisional Headquarters Toro who was alleged to have given birth to a male child on 14/09/2020 at about 0200hrs. Her father Bawada Audu ‘m’ 50yrs of same address seized the child and buried the Baby behind his house.

“Upon receipt of the report, the corpse was exhumed and the baby was rushed to General Hospital where he was certified dead by the medical doctor. Moreover, Hafsat pointed one Danjuma Malam Uba ‘m’ of the same address to have “had carnal knowledge of her” sometime early 2020 now at large.

“Thus, the corpse was released to the village head of Rimin Ziyam for burial. The suspect was arrested and he confessed to the crime.”
