Tension in Taraba: Suspected Tiv group butchers pastor, pregnant wife, son in Donga

Tension in Maraba, a town in Donga Local Government Area of Tataba State as Tiv Militia allegedly murdered a pastor of the CRCN Church, Rev. Emmanuel Bileya; his pregnant wife, Juliana; and their teenage boy.

Our correspondent gathered that the late Emmanuel and his family were cultivating their farm few kilometers away from Mararaba around 4.pm when armed Tiv Militia attacked and killed both of them, while a survivor, who escaped, narrated the news to the community.

Recalled that Tiv-Jukun crisis has been on since April 1, 2019. The two had been fighting in Kente village, Wukari Local Government Area.
In a related development, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, of Taraba State, has condemned the gruesome murder of the pastor, saying that he received with shock news of the dastardly murder.
This was contained in a statement by the S.A Media and Publicity to the governor, Bala Dan Abu.

He further described the killings as wicked and inhuman.
His words: "Killings of this nature has happened too often recently in Southern Taraba communities. This situation is unhelpful to the on-going efforts of government to achieve lasting peace among communities in the area.”

He expressed sympathy with the surviving members of Pastor Bileya's immediate and extended families as well as pastors and members of CRC-N in Mararaba where he served until his death.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims.

Our correspondent also reports that killings of this nature has been on, as a Pastor with Praise Chapel in Rafinkada in Wukari Local Government Area was also murdered last month by Tiv Militia while farming in his farm immediately after a peace talk between Elders and Traditional rulers of both tribe.
It was however gathered that the aftermath of every peace meeting between Tiv and Jukun in the state or outside the state is gorilla attack.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP David Misal, confirmed the incident and called on the people of the area to remain calm and not to take law into their hands as Police were investigating and working hard to identify the perpetrators of the crime and bring to face the law.
