How ritual killers were arrested with decomposing body in Lagos

Detectives attached to Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected ritual killers and recovered a decomposing human body from them.
The suspects, Folake Falade and Emmanuel Gbenga, were arrested at Ijanikin area while pretending to be lunatics.
The third suspect was said to have been lynched by an angry mob when he was trying to escape.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Chike Oti, stated that Falade was found inside a tunnel, under the Cele Nicer Bridge at Ijanikin area with the decomposing human body.
The discovery attracted an irate mob, which nearly lynched her but was saved by the quick intervention of policemen drafted from Ijanikin Divisional Police Headquarters, who raced to the scene.
Oti said that the rescue team thereafter searched the tunnel and arrested another suspect, Gbenga, believed to be Falade’s accomplice, while the third suspect escaped from the tunnel to avoid being arrested but was caught by an irate mob.
He said: “The rescue team thereafter searched the tunnel and arrested a suspect believed to be an accomplice of the female suspect.
“The third suspect, who escaped from the tunnel to avoid being arrested, was caught by an irate mob, which set him ablaze.”
Oti said that the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, had directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ijanikin to cordon off the scene to ensure that the remains were not tampered with for forensic examination.
He added: “The experts are expected at the scene today (yesterday) for scientific examination of the corpse, the tunnel and other exhibits found therein.”
Oti quoted Edgal as describing the incident as regrettable as it occurred despite the various town hall meetings he had held to sensitise communities in the state to the evil of jungle justice.
His words: “They killed one of the suspects who might have been very useful in the ongoing investigation instead of handing him over to the police.”
Edgal warned that anybody found to have indulged in such an act in the future would be arrested and charged for murder to serve as deterrent to others.
