Niger govt presents 2020 budget of N148.2b

Niger State Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello, has presented N148.2 billion budget for the 2020 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.
The budget proposal is against N194, 689,816,253.00 (including Supplementary Budget of N30,247,947,518.42) for 2019, representing a reduction of 13.2%.
Bello, who stated this during the presentation of the budget on the floor of the House in Minna, said that the downward reduction from that of the 2019 Budget showed the readiness of the state to adjust its fiscal responsibility to the current economic realities in the management of the state resources.
The budget tagged, “Budget of Inclusion for Sustainable Development,” Bello explained, was made up of recurrent expenditure to the tune of N69,968,379,598, while capital expenditure would gulf N78,243,549,951.32.

"The proposal consists of Recurrent Expenditure of N69,968,379,598.50 or 47.21 percent and Capital Expenditure of N78,243,549,951.32 or 52.79 percent of the budget.
"The 2020 budget is specifically anchored on the completion of projects that have attained 75% completion."
Responding, the Speaker of the Assembly, Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, assured the governor that the House would ensure the proposed budget was scrutinized and passed into law by the lawmakers..
Wuse also expressed the preparedness of the legislature to partner with the executive for the benefit of the people as well as security agencies to ensure that the security challenges confronting the state are adequately addressed.
