British Airways Plane Fills With Smoke on Approach to Valencia

Passengers were forced to disembark from a British Airways flight to Valencia via emergency slides after the cabin filled with smoke shortly before landing, eyewitnesses said.

This footage from Gayle Fitzpatrick shows a member of the crew speaking on a telephone inside the smoke-filled cabin as passengers wait for information.

Multiple people, including Fitzpatrick, complained on Twitter about a lack of communication from airline staff both during and after passengers disembarked.

On Twitter, Fitzpatrick said she was glad people were okay. “Everyone, including on that flight staff, were in shock,” she wrote. “We were lucky that whatever went wrong happened in the last ten minutes of flight.”

British Airways remarked on the incident in a statement to Storyful: “We can confirm that British Airways flight BA422 from Heathrow to Valencia has been involved in an incident today. The aircraft, an A321, has landed and all customers and crew have disembarked. British Airways teams are assisting customers who are in the airport terminal.” Credit: Gayle Fitzpatrick via Storyful
