A member representing Lere/Bula constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly has declared interest to contest for Bauchi South Senatorial bye-election.
The Bauchi South Senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Senator Ali Wakili.
Aminu Tukur, who was a close associate of the late Senator Wakili, claimed that he 'is the right man for the job' because the late senator hails from his area.
After
submitting his nomination form at the state All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat, Tukur said that the new senator should emerge from Wakili's home town on the ground of justice.
Tukur also claimed that he was most qualified for the job being a two-term member in the state assembly where he acquainted himself with legislative work.
The lawmaker commended the APC national Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomwhole, for abolishing the use of delegates at party's primaries and empowering card carrying members of the party to choose candidates, saying the development would bring about fairness in the party.
"Abolition of the use of delegates at primary election is what inspired and motivated me to run because I believe that will provide level playing ground to all aspirants," he said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had directed all parties wishing to participate in the bye-election to present their flag bearers latest by 25th of this month as the bye-election holds on August 11, 2018.
