Katsina-Alu served Nigeria faithfully - Obi

By Valentine Amanze

Anambra State former Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has described the death of

Aloysius Iyorgyer Katsina-Alu, the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, on Wednesday as shocking.

Katsina-Alu was aged 76, and would have been 77 next month.

In a statement by his media aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, the former governor said that the late Katsina-Alu was a jurist that served his country faithfully,  stressing that it was sad to lose two former Chief Justices in one year [the other being Pa Tunji Fortunatus Gomez].

He lamented that the judiciary would miss Katsina-Alu's fatherly advice dearly.

While praying for the repose of his soul, he beckoned on the  judiciary to keep his legacies afloat by sustaining some of the reforms started during  his time.

Katsina-Alu, a native of Benue State, succeeded Idris Legbo Kutigi as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in December 2009, and was in office till August 2011.
