Illegal importation of 1570 rifles: Court denies bail to defendants, trial commences

The trial of the defendants; Ayogu Great James, Ifeuwa Moses Christ and a company, Great James Oil and Gas Limited charged with illegal importation of firearms commenced on Thursday before Justice Saliu Saidu of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, even as the court refuses to grant them bail.

At the commencement of trial of the defendants, a witness, Nwaiwu Chibuzor Ginikanwa, a Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Intelligence Unit, Tincan Island Command, told the court how the defendants who imported arms into the country through the Tincan Island Port, Lagos were arrested.

Edo hosts Buhari, as President commissions Edo-Azura Plant, attends COAS conference

Edo State Government  will on Tuesday, November 27, host President Muhammadu Buhari, who will commission the Edo-Azura Power Plant and grace the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference, which is billed to hold in Benin City, the state capital.

Ugwuanyi restates commitment to youth empowerment

The Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has re-re-iterated the commitment of his administration to youth empowerment and human development to enable them have a brighter future.

  Ugwuanyi, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Uwakwe Azikiwe, stated this during the swearing in ceremony of 1,706  2018 Batch ‘C’ stream 11 Corps members held at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, Awgu in Enugu State on Monday.

Atiku promises to boost oil investment, cut subsidies if elected

Nigeria's main opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar said on Monday he will boost oil sector investment, cut costly fuel subsidies and double the size of the economy by 2025 if he wins next year's presidential election.

The businessman and former vice president portrayed himself as a champion of the private sector as he released his manifesto and set out his plans to stop incumbent Muhammadu Buhari securing a second term in February.

Three charged for impersonating President Buhari, wife, Aisha

The Police Force Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department of the Police (FCIID) on Monday charged three men before a Federal High Court, Lagos, over alleged cyber crime and impersonating President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha.

 The accused are: Julius Anyawu, a.k.a Musa Mohammed, 48; Kenneth Ezeonu a.k.a Abdul Karim, 45; and George Agu a. k. a Dr Lina Norman, 48.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, who were arraigned on 16 counts bordering on cyber crime, had no legal representatives.

Six APC members die in auto crash on way to victory dance

At least six members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Sunday lost their lives in a ghastly road crash on their way to celebrating the victory of their party in a bye-election that took place over the weekend. One of the victims was said to have been the Women Leader in her constituency.

Gunmen kidnap Plateau monarch

The traditional ruler of Long Dorok Chiefdom in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, David Isa, has been kidnapped by gunmen.  

A former Councilor in Dorok community, Mr. Leo Densak, confirmed the abduction of the second class monarch to a national newspaper.
He said the gunmen numbering over ten stormed the monarch’s house on Monday night at about 8pm and whisked him away to an unknown destination while shooting indiscriminately.

The former Governor of Anambra State and the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has called on Muslims to emulate Prophet Mohammed in his belief in peace and to also work collectively toward achieving that.

Buhari salutes Goodluck Jonathan at 61

Eating protein cuts age-related Illnesses

British researchers said eating more protein may reduce seniors’ risk of disability and help them remain independent longer.
According to the findings published recently in the ‘Journal of the American Geriatrics Society,’ dietary protein slows the age-related loss of muscle mass, helping to preserve the ability of senior citizens to do everyday tasks. Good sources of protein include meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, lentils and other beans, nuts and tofu.
