PDP tasks Bauchi govt on conduct of credible LG election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) led Bauchi State government has been challenged to conduct a free and fair local government elections in the state.

The People's Democractic Party ( PDP) gave the challenge in a communiqué issued at the end of its expanded stakeholders’ meeting‎ at Zaranda Hotel Bauchi.

It stated: "We call in strong terms on the APC-led government in Bauchi State to conduct a credible, acceptable, free and fair local government elections‎ as our great party is ready to participate where a conducive atmosphere is provided."

The communiqué signed by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Akuyam, stated that the party had discussed and analysed the problems that led to its loss in the 2015 general elections and resolved to work together as one family to face the challenges ahead.

 It also reiterated it's support to the National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi‎ which was inaugurated at the PDP national convention to steer the PDP affairs.

The party also welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari to the country after his medical trip to London.

"The PDP, Bauchi State chapter welcomes president Muhammadu Buhari from his medical vacation and wishes him good health and God's guidance in accomplishing his campaign promises to Nigerians,"it added.

Speaking separately after ‎the meeting, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi reiterated their commitment to make the party stronger not only in Bauchi State but in the whole country after the trauma of losing out in the 2015 elections.

Also, the former FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, lamented that despite PDP performance in the last 16 years, self-serving interest of its members and lack of internal democracy affected its fortunes in the elections leading to its loss.

 Also, a prominent PDP chieftain and former Bauchi State‎ nominee for National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, said that PDP was still a party to beat in 2019 as it would come back more united and stronger.

He said that its loss in the 2015‎ has provided the PDP with a focus and determination to correct its past mistake and avoid the blunders committed in the run off to the elections through impositions and other infractions which he said angered and alienated some of its members.

Prominent Bauchi State PDP stakeholders including the former FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, Senator Abdul Ningi, former deputy governor to Ahmed Mu'azu, Abdulmalik Mahmood, Alhaji Shehu Gabam and other personalities were present at the meeting.
