Some members of People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Gamawa and Zaki Local government areas of Bauchi State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
APC state publicity secretary, Auwal Aliyu Jallah, disclosed in Bauchi that the defecters were received by the leadership of the party in Gamawa and Zaki Local government areas.
Jallah said that the defecters joined the APC with about 30,000 of their supporters across the two local governments.
He said that the people who joined the APC include a serving PDP Ex-Officio, Saleh Hussaini, former Bauchi State PDP House of Assembly members, Abdullahi Mukhtar Milo, Alhaji Buba Yarima, Bello Shehu Gwalalo and Bello Jalori.
He said that Yahaya Gumai, a former commissioner to the immediate past governor, Mallam Isah Yuguda, has also defected to the APC in Zaki Local Government Area.
The APC spokesperson said that the former commissioner joined the party with his supporters.
"This gale of defection to APC is a clear testimony of the confidence that people have in the ability of the party to transform Bauchi State. It shows that what is being bandied in the media against governor Abubakar and the Bauchi State APC is a campaign of calumny," he said.
He added that the party would continue to inform people about the positive policies in the pipeline in the state and at the federal level, saying that Nigerians should only be patient and pray for the party to deliver at all levels.
Jallah said that the party was expecting more members of the PDP and other parties to defect to the party in the coming weeks.
