.Lawmakers summon governor’s aide
The ongoing cold war between some powerful aides of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Willie Obiano, came to light yesterday when the member representing Anambra East State Constituency, Obinna Emenaka, drew the first blood by calling on the state assembly to summon the Special Adviser to the Governor, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, before the House.
Emenaka, who moved the motion inside the hallowed chambers of Anambra Assembly, alleged that Obidigwe was now acting as the defector governor of the state due to what he described as over-bearing influence on the government of Anambra State.
“I want to bring to the notice of this House of Assembly the activities of Chinedu Obidigwe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters. “Obidigwe, by his actions, appears to be assuming the position of the governor.
“He goes about with long convoy and blasting siren all over the state without recourse to the law. He has no respect for other constituted authorities and carries himself in such a larger than life status,” the lawmaker said.
Emenaka further alleged that as a Special Adviser to the governor, Obidigwe’s conduct was unbecoming of a public government functionary, who ought to be discharging his duties with the directives of the governor and not to carry out his functions as if he is the governor of the state.
“The same Obidigwe forcefully installed the Traditional Ruler of Nando community in Anambra East Local Government Area and also imposed a President General of the same Nando community. He also forced a President General on the Umuerum community with the use of tugs, policemen and shooting sporadically every where on that day.
“He even threatened to slap a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly in the process.
“I wish to move a motion that Chinedu Obidigwe be brought before the State Assembly to explain to this Honourable House why he has chosen to carry out such activities without recourse to the law and if not checked may continue to discharge his duties in this unlawful manner,” he said.
The House in a resolution demanded the appearance of Obidigwe before it to clear himself of the allegations.
When contacted, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe said that he was not having problems with Emenaka, adding that he was not sure if the lawmaker actually made the allegations.
“Obinna Emenaka represents my own constituency, Anambra East, and that is where His Excellency, the governor comes from. He is my brother and I do not believe that he said such things.
“On the allegations that I imposed a traditional ruler and a president general on Nando community; I see that as untrue. This is because I am not the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters and I am not the Special Assistant on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
“I could not have taken over the office of these people because it does not fall within my office. This is a democracy and not the use of tugs and law enforcement agencies to deprive law-abiding Anambra people of their Constitutional right to choose their leader and this is unacceptable and I cannot be party to that.
“I am a government functionary and I know my bounds. I will not be that stupid as to making any attempt to attack a fellow political office holder like me, let alone a lawmaker.”
Obidigwe further noted that the populist and grassroots oriented administration of Governor Willie Obiano should not be derailed by what he called pedestrian issues and name-dropping all in a bid to distract the state government.
“When we are already coasting to victory in the November 18, 2017 forthcoming gubernatorial elections, some people who have worked hard for the successes of Obiano and knows the grave implications of such rumors have chosen to continue to create this distractions.
“I urge those fanning the embers of crisis and distractions to dissociate themselves from that, because Anambra people did not pay their tax only to hear allegations and counter allegations which cannot add one more kilometer of road, or build new health centers or provide pipe born water for them.”
Sources said that the alleged rivalry between Obidigwe and Emenaka might be the rumored ambition of the duo over the ticket of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra East and West Federal Constituency election in 2019.
